Michigan has great public research universities, as do some of our neighboring states. This type of infrastructure is what helps build hi-tech industry. Auto manufacturing in this part of America is dying and bailouts will only prolong the agony. We are simply no longer competetive in that industry. Let auto manufacturing migrate to the south where many Asian manufacturers are growing, and let us build a hi-tech, knowledge based industry here in Michigan and in surrounding states.

Sounds great but much easier said than done. The ultra high labor cost in Michigan and surrounding states will eliminate any type of significant manufacturing from locating there anytime in the forseeable future. Hi-Tech manufacturing is much more attractive in high education AND low labor cost places like India.
